Meet the PTA Board
Cory Peairs - 1st VP Family Programs & Legislation

Hello all,
My name is Cory and this will be my eighth year as a Winston Mom!cp I grew up in Palatine and just love my Winston neighborhood! My oldest just entered Jr High. I also have triplets in 5th grade and a 9 year old Great Dane who keeps my couch warm everyday while I'm at work. Over the years, I have countless times been a room mom and chaired the Ways & Means Committee. I have also served on the board as a Vice President of the PTA for the past 4 years.

When I am not working or at WCE, I am likely traveling with my family or volunteering with local dog rescue organizations. I know first hand that even us full-time working moms can be huge advocates and be fully engaged at the elementary school level. If you ever find yourself wondering how you can get more involved, please, give me call! I am looking forward to a great year of school with all of my Winston family.

Warm regards, Cory Peairs

Screenagers
Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span?

Monday, September 18th
6:45pm at Sundling Jr. High

Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time-friction she knew all too well.

In SCREENAGERS, as with her award-winning documentaries on mental health, Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids' development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.

D15 News
TOWN HALL MEETING: PROPOSED SCHAUMBURG TIF DISTRICT

The public is invited to attend a town hall meeting Monday, Oct. 2 at Carl Sandburg Junior High School. Organized by OurD15Voice in partnership with District 15, the meeting will focus on the proposed Village of Schaumburg Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District at E. Algonquin and Meacham Roads on the former Motorola property. The event begins at 7 p.m. OurD15Voice is a board-appointed community engagement group.

The proposed development currently includes 2,700 townhouse and apartment units, most of which would be part of District 15. The district has concerns regarding a residential TIF of this size and its potential financial impact on the school district.
Tax increment financing is a public financing method used as a subsidy for redevelopment of blighted properties. A TIF district reallocates funds from property taxes to encourage investment within the district. TIFs significantly reduce allocations to taxing bodies like school districts for up to 23 years.

Representatives from District 15 will be present at the forum to discuss what is known about the proposed property and to discuss specifics regarding TIF districts in general. The public is invited to attend the meeting and ask questions related to the subject.

Additional town hall meetings regarding other topics of interest will take place throughout the school year. More information about those meetings will be announced as it becomes available.
